2024 Instructor Intern
This internship far surpassed my expectations. From improving my communication skills to developing great friendships with the co-interns, this summer had it all. I learned an incredible amount between the first week of training and my last class including skills I will use for the rest of my life. The freedom we had allowed for each class to be refreshingly unique and made the teaching days fly by. I’m also incredibly grateful for the opportunity to visit the Federal Reserve and Murphy Harpst. Both trips left a lasting impact on me and will not be soon forgotten. I never expected to become so close with the other interns, but the deep connections I made over this summer made this experience incredibly enjoyable. This internship at Wealthy Habits was an incredible experience, and I can’t wait to implement the things I learned here in the future.
2024 Instructor Intern
Working at Wealthy Habits was a great experience. Not only did I personally become more confident, but knowing that I was making an impact on kids’ lives was a unique experience I wouldn’t trade for anything else. Making financial literacy fun and engaging was difficult, but I learned so much from working with the other instructors and adjusting to kids’ different learning and listening styles over the summer. I am extremely thankful to Wealthy Habits for a memorable summer and for teaching me skills I won’t forget.
2024 Instructor Intern
Going into the Wealthy Habits Internship, I was definitely unstable with my public speaking skills. The thought of presenting in front of an audience was daunting, and I often found myself struggling to communicate effectively. However, this internship provided a supportive and encouraging environment where I could confront and overcome these challenges. The frequent opportunities to lead workshops and present financial literacy materials helped me build confidence and improve my public speaking abilities significantly.
Today, I am a better person because of the invaluable experiences and lessons I gained during this internship. First, the hands-on practice in developing and delivering financial education content allowed me to hone my presentation skills. Second, the mentorship from seasoned professionals, such as Erica and Tracy, provided me with constructive feedback and strategies to enhance my communication techniques. Lastly, the collaborative nature of the program fostered a sense of camaraderie and teamwork, which was instrumental in my personal and professional growth.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone I worked with during the Wealthy Habits Internship. Erica and Tracy, in particular, played pivotal roles in my development by offering their expertise, support, and encouragement. Their dedication to fostering a positive learning environment made a significant impact on my internship experience. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an enriching program, and I look forward to applying the skills and knowledge I have gained in my future endeavors.
2024 Instructor Intern
This summer with Wealthy Habits has truly allowed me to step out of my comfort zone. I loved collaborating with all the interns, as each brought unique perspectives that enriched our experience. Teaching the students and witnessing the immediate impact of our work was incredibly rewarding.
I also enjoyed working on my project, which involved building a partnership with the Leading by Example Foundation to further financial literacy. Furthermore, working on the annual report helped me appreciate the significant impact made by Wealthy Habits and the contributions we were making as a team.
This internship provided invaluable experience, and I am deeply grateful to Tracy, Erica, and my co-interns for making this opportunity so amazing.
2024 Instructor Intern
My time at Wealthy Habits was both eventful and transformative. Initially, I expected to focus solely on teaching financial literacy to the students, but the experience turned out to be so much more. I built close relationships with my fellow interns, and the program taught me how to adapt to and appreciate different work styles. The supportive and collaborative environment fostered personal growth and made this summer truly memorable. As the weeks went by, I discovered new things about myself. I grew personally, and I witnessed the growth of our students as well.
Additionally, having a project to work on allowed me to think critically and express my creativity, and working with my project partner further enhanced the experience. Through teamwork, I learned the value of collaboration and developed a deep sense of reliability with my partner. This internship also helped me explore different aspects of finance, which in turn made it easier to engage with the students. Although working with the students could be challenging at times, it taught me the importance of patience and understanding that mistakes are a natural part of the learning process.
2024 Instructor Intern
During my enriching internship at Wealthy Habits, I advanced significantly in my ability to communicate complex investment concepts clearly and engagingly to a young audience. Under the expert mentorship of Tracy and Erica, I was instrumental in developing and teaching a detailed investing curriculum. This not only enhanced my presentation skills but also deepened my understanding of finance, making it easier to simplify intricate topics for better student comprehension. The rewarding experience of fostering financial literacy among young learners, and observing their growing understanding of money management, was incredibly fulfilling.
This role also expanded my interest in and commitment to the nonprofit sector, providing valuable insights into its unique challenges and the profound impacts it can achieve. Working in this environment has equipped me with practical skills and deeper knowledge that are essential for my future career aspirations. I am now even more motivated to pursue further opportunities in nonprofit organizations, where I can continue to advocate for financial education and make a significant difference.
2024 Instructor Intern
This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to teach around 130 kids essential financial concepts while working with 11 talented instructors and a dedicated marketing intern, all under the guidance of Tracy and Erica. My main project was hosting a competition for 50 of our top students throughout the summer where they competed for prizes.
The most rewarding part of this experience was witnessing the excitement of students as they grasped financial concepts. Tracy and Erica’s guidance provided me with the insight to efficiently work on projects I was excited about, and I am grateful for the skills and insights I gained.
This experience has equipped me with the confidence to apply what I’ve learned to future endeavors. I thank Tracy, Erica, and my fellow interns for their support and the memorable experiences we shared this summer.
2024 Instructor Intern
This summer had many amazing experiences. I was able to teach so many amazing students, and I had fun doing it. Working with the students could be tough at times, but it was very rewarding knowing that the students learned lessons they can use for a lifetime. One of my favorite experiences this summer was seeing students create a parody of Lady Gaga’s, Poker Face, surrounding saving vs investing. It was so funny and very fulfilling. Another great experience this summer was working with another intern on an assigned project. Our goal was to find ways to expand to underserved communities around us. In the end, we were able to facilitate a potential partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. I particularly loved this part of the project because partnering with another non-profit like ACFB can create a positive change for Wealthy Habits as well as the communities that ACFB supports. I felt like I made a positive impact on our organization and hopefully the community as a whole. The relationships I made throughout this internship were my favorite part of the entire summer. I made some amazing friends, and I learned so much from my fellow interns. I’m very grateful that I was given this opportunity at Wealthy Habits.
2024 Instructor Intern
My time at Wealthy Habits has been an incredibly valuable and enriching experience. Instructing both local and international kids on important personal finance concepts was a highlight for me. I thoroughly enjoyed sharing my knowledge and witnessing how Wealthy Habits prepares these kids for their futures.
Working with colleagues of diverse personalities and cultural backgrounds was an eye-opening experience. From feeling nervous to getting comfortable working with everyone, I built some great friendships that I will cherish.
A huge thanks to Tracy and Erica, who were always there when we needed help. They not only supported us but also helped us see our strengths and weaknesses, which has been invaluable for my personal growth.
This summer has been a memorable one, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of the Wealthy Habits team.
2024 Grant Research/Communications Intern
I learned an incredible amount from Tracy in the collective effort to expand grant writing. I was privileged to see our social impact grow as our team utilized the funding from our generous donors to advance our project, Advancing Financial Literacy for Underserved Youth. From sharpening fundraising to developing grant allocation strategies, my contributions always felt rewarding and fulfilling. I am extremely thankful for the support of Tracy and the whole team throughout my efforts. I am eager to follow the rapid growth of Wealthy Habits’ social impact for underserved youth communities!
2024 Spring Marketing Intern
Interning at Wealthy Habits as a marketing intern has been an invaluable experience. From day one, I was entrusted with real responsibilities, allowing me to apply my creativity and skills to drive engagement and awareness across various social media platforms. The supportive and collaborative environment fostered my growth, enabling me to develop strategic campaigns and content that resonated with our audience. The mentorship provided by the team empowered me to explore new ideas and refine my skills, ultimately contributing to the success of the organization’s mission to promote financial wellness. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such an inspiring team with an empowering mission!
2022 Instructor Intern
My summer with Wealthy Habits was the most impactful period of personal and professional development that I have experienced in my life thus far. I initially went into the experience with low expectations but came out feeling as though I had been personally reinvented through my overall experience, my newfound relationships with the rest of the instructor team, and the mentorship that Tracy Tanner and Yini McCain constantly provided me over the course of my nearly 400 hours spent as a Financial Instructor Intern. Working with Wealthy Habits was an unforgettable experience that I will carry with me throughout the rest of my life.
2022 Instructor Intern
As an instructor, I had the privilege of teaching more than 200 students from across the US how to make sound financial choices, including how to budget their income and invest with a long-term growth mindset. Additionally, I sought out new partnerships through a marketing project and created an after-school program that would expand financial literacy education to local schools in Atlanta with my fellow interns.
More than anything, I felt the most fulfillment from seeing the joy on my students’ faces. Making topics like income taxes, monetary policy, and the rule of 72 not only engaging, but even exciting and fun enough for a class of 11 year olds was an immensely rewarding challenge. The smiles, laughter, gratitude and excitement from my students alone would have made this summer worth it.
I would like to thank Tracy and Yini for helping me learn and grow as a person and giving me the opportunity to help so many of my students do the same. This summer would not have been the same without their constant guidance and mentorship. I would also like to thank all my fellow interns for their support and the memories that we created this summer.
2022 Instructor Intern
With help from an incredible team of co-instructors, I was able to teach over 300 students during my twelve week internship! Throughout the summer, I also contributed to several meaningful projects from creating finance workshops to structuring a youth investing organization. Financial literacy is something very dear to me. It has been a pleasure delivering such an impactful curriculum and watching it change the lives of students. I am extremely thankful to Tracy and Yini for this wonderful opportunity. Working underneath and alongside them has motivated me to continue striving to do better everyday.
2022 Instructor Intern
Transitioning into the internship, I was initially unsure of my public speaking and group management abilities, but soon learned my potential through leading and guiding students in realistic mock activities. In the final weeks, I truly realized how important the company’s mission was. In today’s age, financial literacy is arguably one of the most important aspects of one’s responsibilities in life. What should be taught in schools throughout the country as a standard has gone overlooked for so long and left many young adults lost when dealing with personal finance. I am incredibly thankful to both Tracy and Yini for not only embarking on a journey to spread financial literacy, but for giving me an opportunity to join such a passionate team of educators. Lastly, I want to commend the brilliant team of interns for a great summer. I will leave this summer confident in my skills and eager for future opportunities in the financial world. Thank you.
2022 Business Admin Intern
I had the chance to work with 10 amazing instructors and another wonderful marketing intern under the insightful Tracy and Yini. My main summer project was completing the IRS Form 1023, as well as preparing the bylaws, incorporating documents, and paperwork needed to file for 509(a)(2) public charity status. Along with this, I helped the organization with daily tasks such as handling internal communications, conducting 15+ interviews, and utilizing systems such as Quickbooks and Salesforce to keep data organized and compile an annual report. I learned so much more than I expected to thanks to Tracy and Yini, who mentored me through the summer and gave me the flexibility to work on projects I was passionate about. Leaving this internship, I am confident that I will be able to put the skills I learned here at Wealthy Habits to good use in the nonprofit sector.
2022 Instructor Intern
Frankly, I can’t say what I expected going into the summer. I definitely thought the job would be easier than it was. While the kids were often the biggest challenge this summer, they also helped me grow so much as a person and as a teacher. Each student was a new challenge, and I really enjoyed how each week was entirely different from the last. Adapting to change used to be something that I really struggled with, but this summer I really had to grow and adapt each week, and I learned a ton about myself.
2021 Instructor Intern
My time at Wealthy Habits has proven to be more valuable than any traditional internship. From becoming more comfortable with myself and my public speaking skills as a result of standing in front of kids day after day to reflecting about what it is I want to do with my career, Wealthy Habits has pushed me to become more confident, more self-aware, and more capable of doing whatever it is that I choose to pursue next. Tracy, the director of the organization, is the most caring boss you could have. She looks out for her interns and wants them to succeed more than anything. To have someone as a boss that cares not only about the success of the organization but also about the well-being of her employees is an invaluable asset and learning experience. Much love for Tracy and Yini, and I cannot imagine having done anything as empowering or worthy with my summer.
2021 Instructor Intern
My Wealthy Habits experience was so much more than instructing children in financial literacy camps. I felt that it was a 10 week-long workshop that was geared to better my professional skills so that I could propel myself into a future internship or job. The amount of work I put in was matched by the two directors Tracy and Yini because they care so much about how their interns improve themselves. They are invested in me to succeed just like how I was invested in helping my campers week in and week out.
Since I am going for a degree in Finance, I know that I will need great communication and presentation skills to be successful. With this internship, I was given the opportunity every single day to practice and strengthen these abilities. With all of this newly gained experience, I can say I have come lightyears ahead from where I started. Now, instead of shivering about the idea of a pitch, presentation, or interview, I am ready to tackle whatever is in my path.
2021 Instructor Intern
This internship was more than a work experience; it was a mentorship. I never expected to gain and grow as much as I did throughout the summer. I came into this internship entirely blindsided by the opportunities we had at a rapidly growing organization. Wealthy Habits had to adapt to the pandemic, but they took those adaptation skills and engrained them in all interns, an invaluable life skill. Wealthy Habits is led by Tracy and Yini, two of the most competent and caring people I have ever met. Furthermore, the individualized attention that Tracy and Yini gave to each of their interns is something you will never find at any company, big or small. They make sure your hard skills as a person are improving, but they put a significant emphasis on growing your soft skills. You learn from them not only how to work with others, but a lot about yourself. Wealthy Habits has given me the tools skills I need to succeed on the job and further in my career.
When you are looking for your next internship, find a place where you can refine your skills and grow as a person. Wealthy Habits is that place. Again, massive shoutout to the entire Wealthy Habits team for making my summer engaging, thought-provoking, and most importantly, fun.
2019 Instructor Intern
Working at Wealthy Habits is a unique experience combining education and personal finance that truly allows you to make a difference in students’ lives. Certainly expect challenges – especially with managing a classroom of kids who might not necessarily be there of their own volition – but also expect to learn a lot, both about yourself and others. Through this internship, I’ve grown in a wide range of skills, including leadership, communication, and of course, further knowledge in personal finance. Sometimes, it might be discouraging when all the students don’t reciprocate enthusiasm for learning about personal finance, especially when you know it’s important information. But at the end of the day, it’s really about leaving them with at least one piece of financial advice for making a difference in at least one student’s financial decision making.
What was your biggest takeaway with regard to personal finance?
While majoring in Finance, I’ve learned about managing money, investing, and financial analysis in a numerical and essentially abstract method. Teaching the Wealthy Habits curriculum made money personal and taught me that every dollar counts. Additionally, I was surprised by how little I knew about insurance and the workings of credit cards.
How do you feel you have grown from the internship?
Improving my public speaking BIG TIME!!! (even though I took A LOT away from this internship). In the beginning, I was very nervous (especially during the first week of training lol) and throughout the weeks, I definitely gained more confidence and feel WAY more comfortable teaching a subject I love!!! I love this summer so much!
What was your biggest learn from the internship?
I loved the opportunity to work with so many new people and personalities. I came in to the program knowing that I was going to teach Wealthy Habits but didn’t realize just how much I would also learn along the way. Not only have I had a hand in securing kids’ financial futures, but I’ve also improved my own leadership and management skills. It was definitely an awesome summer experience!
What would tell future candidates about the internship?
This is a great experience. You learn a lot about yourself and how to work with others. Not everyone is easy to work with, especially when your personalities are quite opposite, but you find a way to make it work!
What was your biggest takeaway with regard to personal finance?
It’s in the name of the camp: habits. I learned that fostering habits, sculpting priorities, and developing the proper mindset is much easier when large long-term goals (i.e retirement, career) are divided into smaller, more digestible plans. Personal finance can seem daunting and complicated, especially when you’re first dealing with it, because of how distant the finish line is. Here, I learned about the present. As young people, we have so much time on our hands to explore and take risks, which is really motivating. We have the opportunity to set up our habits today.
What was your biggest take-away from the internship?
There was a lot but I think the biggest one is learning to work with people with different personalities. Not that I haven’t worked with other people before, I seldom had a chance to work so closely with multiple people for an extended time. It was a great learning experience in terms of both how to learn about others and how to approach them. It also pushed me to think about myself and how I would come across to other people.
How do you feel you have grown from the internship?
I have improved on my abilities to speak in front of groups. I’m less shy when meeting people for the first time. Also, I’ve learned a LOT about personal finance within the last two months.
What is your biggest takeaway from this internship?
Public speaking skills for sure. I am more confident in my ability to speak to others and explain things. I also have been able to lighten up and make finance jokes. I, myself have also learned a whole lot about personal finance and investing (both by teaching and by talking to my wonderful co-instructors). It has been so fun.
What was your biggest takeaway from the internship?
This experience taught me just how much financial literacy benefits children like our campers. Also, through teaching others to think the way we do at Wealthy Habits, I changed my own way of thinking about life and money in ways that will benefit me for years to come.
What was your biggest take-away this summer??
How to work with different types of people, and I learned a lot about financial literacy that will be helpful in my own personal life.
What is your biggest takeaway from this internship?
This internship has given me the skills I need to succeed in any career field. My public speaking skills have improved tremendously—I now have the confidence to speak in front of a crowded room without feeling nervous at all! I am so grateful to have spent my summer getting to know all types of people. I hope to continue to volunteer with Wealthy Habits in the future!
Check out all of our amazing interns we’ve had over the years
